Narwal Freo X Ultra
A highly-rated, highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that has a new approach to design The Freo X Ultra is a well-made machine. The $1400 price tag may be hard to swallow but it is often available to make it more affordable. The unit looks great, and the base station takes up just a small space in the corner of a room.
This robot's design addresses some of the issues we've had with other robotic vacuum and mop units, like the brushes becoming entangled in hair, and the vacuum brush being unable to reach floors with no furniture. The sweeping performance is impressive on carpets and flooring. The vacuum/mop features a high level debris pickup and the mop can quickly soak up bare floors.
The mops have a sophisticated system that cleans the edges of walls, and around furniture. The robot can easily avoid obstacles like toys, food bowls and backpacks. However, it could get stuck or become entangled with smaller and less hefty objects such as shoelaces, USB cables and pen.

We used this robot to vacuum and mop a mix of pile rugs, FLOR carpet tiles, and hardwood floors within a large, open house floor plan. With FREO Mind enabled, it vacuumed and mopped the 90m2 area in about 170 minutes which is about the average for Gen 4.
Certain features differentiate this robot from others in its class. Freo X Ultra is equipped with numerous improvements in terms of sensors, software and hardware that keep it at the top of its class. It claims 3.5 hours of autonomy in areas up to 260m2.
You can modify a variety of features of the Freo app, such as how frequently the robot comes back to the base station the frequency of mopping, as well as power (silent or smart), and its mopping humidity. The app is able to identify areas with a lot of dirt and design a clean route, as well as give detergent out or raise the carpet's pads.
Other noteworthy features include a rapid charging battery, a simple-to-read display on the robot's bottom and a handy dock door that opens easily. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is a great choice for apartment and home owners who want to reduce their chores and keep their homes clean.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele is not a slouche in the robot vacuuming world and has a reputation for quality and innovativeness. This new robot aims to take it to the next level with innovative features and top-of-the-line cleaning performance.
The RX3 features dual suction, intelligent navigation with 3D mapping and a camera that transmits live images to your smartphone for effortless control. Its powerful four-stage cleaning system provides excellent dust removal on hard and carpet floors, while its easy-to-use side brushes with a swing-out feature and two suction channels remove dust from corners. Its 8.5 cm height lets it get under low furniture. Front cameras and infrared sensor assist in navigating obstacles, thresholds, and obstacles with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test on how well it was able to clean baking powder around baseboards and corners. Its 2,500Pa suction was weaker than other robots, but it was still silent and moved swiftly. It didn't mop, however, and its removable cleaning pads were a bit difficult to attach and couldn't cope with dried-on dirt.
The app doesn't have advanced features such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does support Alexa however its voice controls aren't particularly precise or responsive. It's also difficult when it comes to navigating its way back to the charging station after running -- other robots can follow a previous route or sensibly follow a wall around until they reach their destination, but the RX3 simply bumbles around until it finally gives up and sends a failure message to your phone.
Another issue we had was with its smart features, particularly the mapping function and the digital keep-out zones. While it did a good job of keeping away from our shoes and furniture legs, it got easily caught by cables and socks, and couldn't handle the tassels that adorn carpets. That's the reason we didn't choose to include it on our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and impressive performance. It's worth a look as an alternative to uprights that are traditionally used.
